Francesco Ferrero (Turin, 1997) is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher whose work focuses on the relationships between territories, manual practices and cultural institutions, exploring how design can activate processes of transformation within contemporary rural landscapes.
He holds a BA in Design and Visual Communication from the Polytechnic University of Turin and a MA in Eco-Social Design from the Free University of Bolzano. He is currently a PhD student in Design for Cultural Heritage as part of the National Doctoral Program “Design for Made in Italy: Identity, Innovation, and Sustainability,” at the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli.”
His interest in landscape and craft-based knowledge emerged during a collaboration with La Rivoluzione delle Seppie in Calabria, centred on basketry and women’s manual practices. This trajectory then moved from the Apennines to the Alps, where he began a long-term collaboration with Ca’Mon – Centre for Art and Craft in Valle Camonica.
Over the years, he has developed projects at the intersection of artistic research, collaborative practices and territorial engagement, working with institutions such as GAMeC, Regione Lombardia, and taking part in residencies in Italy and abroad, including the Nuovo Grand Tour, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture.
His current trajectory deepens an investigation of the museum as an active platform for cultural transformation in rural Italian regions. It explores how design can mediate new ways for communities to engage with their heritage and the places they inhabit.
